WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL (Friends of Waverley Library) COMMITTEE, August 2019
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 48th meeting on the 3rd Sunday of August from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 10 of us in the room. We had 2 new members at the meeting, which Anne Skyvington convened.
During this session, all 10 writers presented interesting work. Most of us managed to share hard copies with the group. We listened to 2 pieces of short fiction, 2 poems, 3 novel excerpts, a memoir piece and two excerpts of non-fiction. Although there were ten of us there, we managed to give each person a chance to share work. Note: More than 10 participants could be a future challenge if our membership continues to grow. However, new members are always welcome.
After the feedback session, members were again encouraged to attend Susannah Fullerton’s talk on Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca on Sunday 22nd September ($10), at 2pm in the Waverley Library Theatrette. This presentation by the entertaining Susannah Fullerton is expected to be excellent.
Not long after the meeting, we received the latest, long-awaited edition of FOWL Deeds in our inboxes. Two Waverley Writers, Margie Yen and Susan Beinart, were published in this latest FOWL newsletter. Margie’s review covered Lorenzo Montesini’s Who’s Really Who in Hollywood presentation in the Waverley Library Theatrette earlier this year. Susan’s piece was about the Dina Davis/Susannah Fullerton author talk, also in the Theatrette a few months ago – Capriccio by member Dina Davis was the book discussed.
Hopefully more of us will contribute to FOWL Deeds in future. If you wish to do so, please speak to either Anne Skyvington or Susan Beinart for submission details.
Finally, some sad news. Some of you will already know that Marie Curtis, the President of FOWL, has passed away. Waverley Writers, fostered by Marie and other members of the FOWL Committee, expresses its condolences to Marie’s family on this sad occasion. Marie will be sorely missed.
Waverley Writers’ next meeting will take place on Sunday 15 September 2019, from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. We are hoping to see you there.
