WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL (Friends of Waverley Library) COMMITTEE, November 2019
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 50th meeting on the 3rd Sunday of October from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 7 of us present at the meeting, which Anne Skyvington convened.
During this meeting, all 7 writers presented work, and all 7 of us shared hard copies with the group. This helped pave the way to a very successful meeting. We were presented with 2 memoir pieces, 2 short stories and 3 novel excerpts. There was spirited feedback and some of us mentioned how helpful the generous feedback in these sessions has been.
After the session, some of us discussed Susannah Fullerton’s talk on Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, which took place on Sunday 22nd September in the Waverley Library Theatrette. There was a good showing of FOWL members there; it was generally agreed that the presentation by the entertaining Susannah Fullerton was, as expected, excellent. One of our members, Pamela Trustrum, was enthused enough to write an article on the talk for the forthcoming edition of FOWL Deeds. This will be her first submission to our FOWL newsletter.
Before the presentation, Lorna Graham paid tribute to long-serving president Marie Curtis who, sadly, passed away three weeks before.
As we have mentioned earlier, we hope that some more of us will contribute to future editions of FOWL Deeds. If you wish to do so, please speak to either Anne Skyvington or Susan Beinart for submission details.
Finally, some great news. Most of you will already know that member Anne Skyvington has self-published her novel, Karrana. It’s a love story set in the aftermath of the Second World War in a fictional country town. The issues, especially for women, are still relevant today. Anne is launching Karrana at Gleebooks, 49 Glebe Point Road, Glebe at 6.00 pm for 6.30 pm on FRIDAY 29th NOVEMBER. Professor Mark Onslow will be launching the book, and champagne and snacks will be served. All Waverley Writers and FOWL members are welcome. Hopefully, we will have received invitations by now.
As we have enthusiastically supported other members at their book launches before, we will surely turn up in droves to support Anne. You can RSVP her event at WWW.KARRANA.COM.
Waverley Writers’ next meeting will take place on Sunday 17 November 2019, from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. We are hoping to see you there.
