WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL (Friends of Waverley Library) COMMITTEE, October 2018
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 40th meeting on the 3rd Sunday of October from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 10 people present at the meeting, which Anne Skyvington convened. This included 1 new member, who was welcomed by the group.
Members have felt rather euphoric after the satisfying success of their performances at the FOWL Meet and Greet on 2nd October, and have since spoken enthusiastically of the experience. At this (following) meeting, we were also able to report that the FOWL Committee members who attended the event expressed appreciation for the high standard of content and presentation displayed by Waverley Writers and Eastern Suburbs Poets. So – a performance we might wish to repeat one day. Well done, all!
Before our feedback session began, member Dina Davis presented an interesting talk on her path to her successful publication of Capriccio: A Novel. Dina also brought along some copies of the book and was able to sell them all! This was a very good indicator of ongoing success.
During the meeting, 9 participants presented writing for feedback. There were 5 novel excerpts, 4 poems, 1 biographical piece, 1 synopsis and 1 memoir excerpt. As usual, feedback was lively and offered in a respectful manner. It was, indeed, another successful gathering of writers.
Waverley Writers is also proud to inform our members that member Maureen Mendelowitz wishes to invite us to attend the launch of her second novel, Alone not lonely, on Monday 3rd December from 6pm-8pm. This date coincides with public awareness of domestic violence and White Ribbon Day. Indeed, some themes in her book are abuse of children and women, and, inter alia, the empowerment of women. The launch will take place at Community Lounge JewishCare 3 Saber Street Woollahra. Light refreshments will be provided and books will be available for sale and signing at this free event.
The next meeting of Waverley Writers, which will be a normal feedback session, will take place on Sunday the 18th of November 2018, from 2-4pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. We are looking forward to seeing you at the library then.
