WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL (Friends of Waverley Library) COMMITTEE, July 2018
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 37th meeting on the 3rd Sunday of July from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 7 people present at the meeting, which Anne Skyvington convened. This included a new member, whom we welcomed.
During our feedback session, each participant presented a piece of writing for discussion. These included 4 novel excerpts, 1 memoir piece, 1 biographical piece and 1 piece of creative non-fiction. As usual, the standard of writing was high, and, as a result, enthusiastically received.
Before the feedback session began, we once again discussed the FOWL Meet and Greet to be held on the morning of the 2nd of October 2018. On that day, from 10am to 12pm, FOWL will host a combined Eastern Suburbs Poetry Group and Waverley Writers’ session, followed by a tea provided by the poetry group. Members of both groups will read excerpts of their own poetry and prose, or ask another member to read their piece. Each presentation should take no longer than 4 minutes.
We have agreed to bring our pieces to the September meeting in order to firm up and practise reading them. Those who cannot attend this meeting will arrange for a fellow member to read their work. Hopefully there will be at least one member of the poetry group present.
Waverley Library has generously offered to print a flyer inviting the public to attend our presentation and the tea that follows. They will also publicise the event via their other outlets. Waverley Writers and Eastern Suburbs Poets should feel free to invite friends and family to come and support us on the day.
Also at the meeting, two of our members offered to submit articles to the next edition of FOWL Deeds. It would be great if more of us could contribute to future editions of this FOWL newsletter, which we all receive.
Our next meeting will take place on Sunday the 19th of August 2018, from 2-4pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. We are looking forward to seeing you at the library then.
